  • One blank day for commuting (BDC)

  • The contract provides for one BDC for each commuting round trip. However, despite this, AJX current policy is to provide 2 BDCs for each commuting trip. No BDCs are provided to pilots who do not actually commute for any reason. BDC is not the same as a day off.

  • Business class tickets are provided on ANA flights (only) or;

  • Economy class tickets are provided for destinations not served by ANA. Economy plus (or equivalent) will be booked if available or;

  • $2000 cash for those who choose to book travel themselves.

    • Caution: Penalties may be assigned for those who travel on space available (ZED) tickets and who arrive late for duty.

ACCOMMODATION ALLOWANCE

  • In addition to the option of having AJX provide hotel accommodations for you while you are in Japan, there is an option to receive an accommodation allowance so that you may rent your own apartment in Japan. This allowance comes with some very detailed requirements in terms of where you may reside. Generally, within a certain proximity to one of the two airports (Haneda or Narita). The allowance for authorized apartments is 200,000 JPY per month.

  • When receiving this additional allowance, the pilot must then assume all ground transport costs in the Tokyo area including taxi rides when public transport is not available.

  • AJX provides hotel accommodation on all duty layovers. There is no accommodation allowance during initial or recall training. AJX instead provides hotel accommodation.

PER DIEM

  • During initial, recall or upgrade training USD equivalent of 7800 JPY per day.*

  • During line operations, USD equivalent of 13,000 JPY per day.

*Note: Per Diem and the Accommodation Allowance are not paid in JPY. They are paid in the USD equivalent. The exchange rate used is the rate designated by ANA for payment of all bills for the month. The allowances are paid in arrears, and the exchange rate may have changed since the time of the transaction.

DUTY

  • In addition to normal flight duties, assigned duties may include assisting the training of other pilots away from the ANA training facility including duty in other training facilities in cities outside Japan.

OVERTIME

  • A pilot only becomes eligible for participation in the pension after completing training. No payment is made during training.

  • Non-US pilots may participate or opt out of the pension plan. Their participation is voluntary. For non-US pilots who do not participate the entire amount is paid to the pilot as additional salary. However, no pension payment is made during initial training.

  • The contract specifies an amount paid by Air Japan to CREW for pension purposes as:

    • Captains $1000/month

    • First Officers $600/month

  • As per our IRS approved pension plan documents, the mandatory deposit for each participating pilot from this earmarked ‘pension’ amount above is only $550. The remainder is paid to the pilot directly in cash. So, for a Captain participating, $550 is deposited in the pension plan from the $1000 and the remainder ($450) is paid in salary. For an FO $550 is deposited in the pension plan and the remainder ($50) is paid as salary.
